3 quirky things to do this summer in Euston

Free art, a seasonal courtyard pop-up – and NW1’s finest Mexican bar

ART: See the Glass Cloud

In the mood for free pursuits? This London-based, independent pop-up window gallery is the brainchild of innovative local artist Hannah Luxton. Her latest project is the now-annual exhibition that pops up in the Camden People’s Theatre windows during the summer months. This year there are two four-week-long exhibitions by London artists including Lothar Götz and Alice Wilson; they run until mid September. So stop by as you pass next time and look in. Free. DRINK: Pop-up aperitivo bar

Albany Street’s Queen’s Head & Artichoke, with its frosted leaded glass windows, is something of an NW1 institution. Located just beyond Regent’s Place on the edge of the park, its slim right-angled pavement terrace is always packed on a sunny evening. For something a bit different, there’s currently a holiday-like pop-up in the covered back courtyard (see main pic, above), signed by a chalkboard on the street inviting punters in for aperitivo and tapas. It literally is tiny – with room for about fifteen – but nonetheless charming, with ruby-red geraniums on shelves, hanging grasses and magnolias. On a hot day it makes a shady retreat for a spritz with a tangy bowl of pickled vegetables. Until end of Sept, Queen’s Head & Artichoke, Albany Street NW1

CLUB: Party underneath Mestizo

An unassuming doorway next to the pioneering Hampstead Road Mexican restaurant leads down into a subterranean late-night space – and every Thursday it’s open to all for a well-priced night of food, booze, music, and fiesta. Munch on tacos from a bargain £1, filled with the likes of melt-in-the-mouth pork with marinated red onion, shredded chicken cooked in mole, or courgette flower with sweetcorn and garlic. Wash it all down with lashings of tequila from just £3 a shot, or a few punchy Margaritas. What could be a better combo to kickstart the weekend? Thursdays, 7pm til late, Mestizo, 103 Hampstead Road NW1
